L-asparainase is known as an effective anticancer drug in the induction chemothetrapy
of acute lymphocytic leukemia. The side effects or toxicities of L-asparaginase have
been noted over 40% such as hypersensitivity reaction, hepatotoxicity, pancreatitis and
transient diabetes mellitus, CNS toxicity, disorder of coagulation system and mild
cytotoxicity. Treatment with L-asparaginase, however, has been little associated with
diabetic ketoacidosis. We report a female patient with acute lymphocytic leukemia
developing diabetic ketoacidosis during induction chemotherapy with L-asparaginase,
prednisolone, vincristine and daunorubicin.
